NSW believed 'lessons' from VIC outbreak last year 'did not apply to it'

Political consultant Jim Middleton says the current COVID-19 outbreaks in three states is a result of the New South Wales government believing the “lessons that we learnt” in Victoria last year “did not apply to it”.

Mr Middleton said if NSW had “taken note of the lessons learnt in Victoria last year, they might‘ve acted quicker" and therefore “the economy would not have had to shut down for as long”.

“And instead of having half the economy of the nation now frozen up, we would simply be on the way in New South Wales to returning to normal and economic life in the entire country could be heading back to at least what is COVID normal,” he told Sky News.

He said he hopes Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and South Australian Premier Steven Marshall “have got it right” by acting more quickly to impose lockdowns.

"And on the record, it does seem to have been the case that this has worked in the past."
