Challenge: Make a complete track with only a $99 plugin synth

Using one plugin synth for all the sounds in song? A full production? Even if I have to synthesis the drums as well? No samples? Of course I took the challenge. It's possible. The problem is getting away with it, it have to sound good as well. Bolt VST from Nektar, here I come!

Some interesting compositional decisions is the fact that I set out to have the last chord of the verse to also begin the choruses, and the last chord of the choruses should also start the verses.
Setting some parameters and limitations before I start a composition forces me to think outside my usual box so this is a great way of breaking though stale habits. That starts with the composition itself.

Even if all the sounds indeed comes from Bolt, it does not mean I didn't have to work hard to pull this off. I did a lot of layering, compression, EQ and processing inside the DAW to mix this. Especially since the drums are more of the analog style type of drum sounds.

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!

Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
