A state complete streets policy at the SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT) seemed impossible at one point. After many years of advocating for a policy, it became imperative this would be necessary if any city or town in SC was going to see a local Bike and Pedestrian Plans implemented. In this session, you will learn how the SC Livable Communities Alliance, under the leadership of the Palmetto Cycling Coalition, recently achieved success in advocating to the SCDOT for a statewide complete streets policy. Attendees will also learn the value of: grassroots and coalition advocacy in achieving policy wins; data and equity in achieving policy wins; and state policy in coordinating with local policies.
