On tonight’s Global National: Bombings along the perimeter of the airport and at a hotel in Kabul have killed at least 72 people, including more than a dozen members of the U.S. military. An Afghan branch of the Islamic State, which is more extreme than the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the bombings. As Mike Armstrong reports, the future is more uncertain than ever for Afghans trapped under the Taliban.

President Joe Biden vowed Thursday that the U.S. would punish those behind the attack. Jackson Proskow reports from Washington on the president’s response to the bombings.

Meanwhile, Canada’s effort to evacuate people from Afghanistan has ended. As Abigail Bimman reports, questions about Afghanistan have plagued Trudeau on the campaign trail.

Plus, British Columbia is in the midst of one of the worst fire seasons on record. There have been 1,500 fires so far this year, forcing thousands of people from their homes. The crisis is so severe it has made headlines around the world. In Lytton, B.C., dozens of families were left with nothing. Robin Gill reports.

A summer of record heat, droughts and wildfires has magnified the climate crisis. Canada’s party leaders all have plans they say will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Eric Sorensen delves into each party’s climate action plan, to determine if any get a passing grade.
