Dozens of protesters took to the streets of Tokyo on Saturday to march against Princess Mako's upcoming wedding to a commoner, which will be held on October 26.

Those opposed to the marriage made their way through downtown Tokyo, holding signs accusing fiance Kei Komuro of fraudulently receiving government and taxpayer money.

"The Japanese media is hiding information, I don't trust them. That is the reason I'm joining today's demo," said one protester.

The procession was met with both support and opposition from bystanders, with one person seen applauding the marchers, whilst another showed them a middle finger gesture.

On Monday, Komuro is set to meet Princess Mako's parents, after having returned from his work at a US law firm the month prior.

The meeting comes amid a three-year controversy surrounding reports of a financial dispute involving his mother.

The 29-year-old princess will lose her title due to marrying a commoner and has decided to forego a 150 million yen ($1.35 million) payment usually given to royals by the government for relinquishing their status.
