بعد ظهوره المريب في شريطَيْ فيديو تراجع فيهما عن مواقفه السابقة في شأن التحقيق والقاضي طارق بيطار، أبت كاميرا طوني خليفة أن تتعامل مع ابراهيم حطيط كشخص ينطق بكلام تحت الضغط. فتوجّهت إلى منزل المتحدّث السابق باسم أهالي ضحايا انفجار مرفأ بيروت، للاستحصال على سكوب حمل عنوان «ابراهيم حطيط يخرج عن صمته».
والواقع أنّ حطيط لم يكن صامتاً، فقد ظهر مرّتين منذ منتصف ليل الجمعة. لكنّ كلام حطيط وأداءه خلال الكلام رجّح فرضيّة خضوعه للتهديد، ممّا يوجب التعاطي معه كرهينة حتى إشعار آخر. ففي حالة كهذه، يصبح وضع ميكروفون أمامه بمثابة وضعِ الإعلام نفسه بتصرّف الجهات المهدِّدة على حساب حريّة حطيط. وهذا ما بدا واضحاً منذ السؤال الأوّل خلال المقابلة، والذي هدف لنفي تعرّض حطيط لأيّ تهديد.

After Ibrahim Hoteit’s suspicious appearances in two videos in which he refuted his previous position regarding the investigation and Judge Tarek Bitar, Tony Khalife failed to deal with Hoteit as someone speaking under pressure. Instead, the former spokesperson for the Families of the Port Explosion Victims was interviewed in his own home, in order to get the scoop for a video titled “Ibrahim Hoteit breaks his silence.”
In reality, Hoteit was not silent, as he had spoken twice since midnight on Friday. However, his words and manner of speaking strongly suggest that he was under threat, which means he should be dealt with as a hostage until further notice. In a case like this, interviewing him is tantamount to the media placing itself on the side of the threatening party at the expense of Hoteit’s freedom. This was clear from the interview’s first question, which aimed to deny that Hoteit is under threat.
