The US has the highest incarceration rate of any country in the world and many observers have blamed this in part on the for-profit prison industry. But recently, President Joe Biden issued an executive order for the federal government to stop using private prisons. We examine what impacts this will have on the private prison industry and whether they can survive under the current policy framework.
