In this video we'll explain what Mao’s Great Leap Forward actually was and consider how responsible he is for the Great Famine that ensued. This program was a really important part in shaping Chinese history as 30 million would die from 1958-1962 and Mao’s prestige would suffer so much that he had to take a leave of absence and could only wrestle back control of the party through the Cultural Revolution. But how much of the Great Famine was a direct result of the Great Leap Forward and just how much of the blame can really be placed on how Mao Zedong?
