Tightening measures to curb COVID-19 transmission and to buy time for more vaccinations

Singapore faces a real risk of accelerated COVID-19 transmission within the community, with more cases expected from the Jurong Fishery Port as well as market and food centre clusters. A return to Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) measures will help avoid a sharp rise in infections. The move is also meant to buy time for more Singaporeans to be vaccinated, especially seniors who are vulnerable to severe illness.

Co-Chairman of the Multi-Ministry Taskforce, Minster Lawrence Wong, was speaking at a Multi-Ministry Taskforce Press Conference on 20 July 2021.
