Phrases which sound clunky in English can be expressed in a much more straightforward manner in Korean. In my opinion, this is one of the most useful and versatile parts of Korean grammar. In English we connect the relative clause to a noun using relative pronouns. In Korean, the relative clause goes before the noun it describes, with the verb at the end of the clause connected with ㄴ, 는, or ㄹ. This allows you to say things like:
I saw a friend who was going to the library: 도서관에 가는 친구를 봤어.
Did you like the movie that you saw yesterday? 어제 본 영화를 좋아했어?
The man who helped me find the bus stop was very nice. 내가 버스 정류장을 찾도록 도와준 사람은 매우 착했어.
