Zichron Yaakov - 19th century town in Israel, Founded by Baron de Rothschild .
Located upon Mount Carmel Zichron Yaakov was established in 1882, by Jewish immigrants from Romania.
Baron Edmond James de Rothschild was a French member of the Rothschild banking family. Baron Edmond James de Rothschild visited the town in 1883, through his generosity he financially assisted the settlers renamed the town Zichron Yaakov in memory of his father, Baron James (Yaakov) Mayer de Rothschild . Today, the town is a major tourist destination, each step in Zichron Yaakov sends you to the late 19th century. Original structures now contain shops, boutiques and restaurants, while street boards tell the tale of the pioneers.
Very European town . We had a good time strolling down the beautiful 19th century streets.
