INTRODUCTION

1. The Fatherhood of God

a. This was taught by Moses

b. This was also taught by Isaiah the prophet

2. The historical context of Isaiah

a. The problem of Israel turning away from God

b. The problem of unbelief and rebellion against God

c. The ministry of Isaiah in calling people to return to God

d. This ministry included praying for God’s people!

RECEIVING A SPECIAL VISION OF THE REDEEMER OF GOD’S PEOPLE

1. He comes out of Edom

a. Edom was an ancient enemy of Israel

b. Bozrah was the capital city of Edom

2. Distinctive features

a. He is glorious in His apparel

b. Travelling in the greatness of His strength

3. Declaration made

a. I who speak in righteousness

b. Mighty to save!

4. The inquiry of Isaiah the prophet (Isaiah 63:2)

a. Why is Your apparel red?

b. And Your garments like the one who treads in the winepress?

5. The response given (Isaiah 63:3 – 6)

a. He has trodden the winepress alone

b. He has trampled over Israel’s enemies in His wrath

c. He declares that the year of “My redeemed” has come

d. He alone redeems and delivers His people from their enemies!

RECALLING GOD’S LOVINGKINDNESS
(Isaiah 63:7 – 9)

1. God’s lovingkindness bestowed upon His people

2. Praising God for His lovingkindness

a. His great goodness towards the house of Israel

b. His mercies given according to the multitude of His lovingkindness!

3. God’s lovingkindness expressed for His people

a. As Saviour (Isaiah 63:8)

b. As Redeemer (Isaiah 63:9a)

c. As Father (Isaiah 63:9b)
He bore them and carried them all the days of old

CONCERN FOR THE REBELLION OF GOD’S PEOPLE
(Isaiah 63:10)

1. They rebelled despite God’s lovingkindness shown to them!

2. They grieved His Holy Spirit

3. The LORD had to chastise His people

a. He turned Himself against them as an enemy

b. He fought against them

DRIVEN TO PRAYER

1. Crying out to God personally (Isaiah 63:15)

a. To look down from heaven

b. Deep personal concerns raised up to God

i. Where is Your zeal and strength?

ii. The yearning of Your heart and Your mercies toward me?

iii. Are they restrained?

2. Pleading with God as Father (Isaiah 63:16)

a. Doubtless You are our Father

b. You, O LORD, are our Father

3. Pleading that God would return (Isaiah 63:17)

a. That He would be involved in their lives

b. That they would not continue to stray from Him

c. That they would not continue hardened their heart to fear God

d. That God would return for His servant’s sake

e. That God would again regard them as His inheritance!

GREAT CHALLENGES

1. Our faith must cause us to pray and not lose hope in God!

2. Our challenge to pray so much more

a. To bring our personal concerns to God

b. To plead with Him as our Father who cares for us as His children

c. To seek God earnestly to return to be involved in our life!
